15 month old hates nappy change

Hi all

My 15 month hates nappy changes. He constantly tries to avoid it and when I do try to lie him down, he escapes. If I try to keep him there he cries.

It’s not possible to do it alone these days.

I did buy some nappy pants today which made my life a little bit easier but I am having nightmares thinking about changing him when he’s done a poo :((((

Any tips?? I’ve tried distraction and it doesn’t work unless it’s something which he hasn’t seen before (and that’s quite rare as we’ve tried all the forbidden items and now he’s bored of them).

My DS is 16 months and was exactly the same he used to purposely bang his head off the floor but I didn't react to it and now he's stopped thank God, so I hope it will be the same for you.

I had this! It was terrible, became a two person job. Sometimes he'd scream all the way through

Suddenly about a month ago (so when he was about 17 months old) it just stopped. He started telling us when he'd gone (by grabbing his nappy) and also became fine with changes! Such a relief! He obviously started to understand what was happening and why we were doing it.

So maybe just hang in there? Fingers crossed you have something similar happen!

@kiwiblue wow you just made my day. I really really hope so. It’s definitely a two person job when he’s done a poo! I hope he grows out of it!!

MIL said try potty training him. Isn’t it a bit early?

I'm sure he'll grow out of it.

I'm no expert on potty training but I would have thought they have to show you they're ready- ie telling you when they're about to go or have gone- and sounds like he's not at that stage yet. I'd just hang in there a bit longer, I'm sure all will change soon. You know how it is with babies, nothing lasts!

Thank you. That’s what I thought too! I hope he grows out of it.

Hi

Our nappy changes were only successful if there was a person on each limb, so I started doing stand up nappy changes.
Although not ideal, he's much happier and they have been a game changer

My 16mo DD is similar, the best I can do is to give her the remote control to hold while I do it. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. I used to sing a particular song ("A new nappy for DD" to the tune of "A new Argentina" from Evita) but that no longer distracts her, sadly!

We have been doing stand up nappy changes using nappy pants since about 12 months: he’s happy, I don’t have to battle - and 90% of the time we don’t have any poo anywhere you don’t want it Grin
