Help - my 14m old keeps hitting!

My 14m old DS is very sweet and happy but he constantly hits and slaps and throws things...not at just me but other children (particularly his own age) and pets.

I don't think he means to be violent as he smiles and giggles when he does it....he clearly doesn't understand what he's doing and I think he learns it from his two older brothers (6 and 4) who playfight a lot.

I have tried to tell him off but it has no impact because obv he's still a baby really. This is causing a real problem for us as he hits our nanny's daughter (same age as him, she brings her to work) and the poor thing half loves him and is half terrified!!

What can I do??! Help!!!

Unfortunately I have no advice as I'm going through exactly the same thing. It's tough as you can't really reason with them, but I do always talk to them and say the obvious things like "no", "that hurts", "please don't throw your toys", "stroke the cat nicely", "gentle hands" in the hope that one day he will understand.

He's 16 months, so I'm hoping that day is pretty soon Grin
