Help, My 12yo special needs daughter is freaking us out!

My little girl turned 12 in August and on returning to school this Sept she has totally changed. She no longer wants to cooperate in school, she throws things. Her carers are having a hard time taking her out because she often decides to just take a seat on the street.

She is good at home, no trouble at all but outside of the home no-one can reach her. She has Downs Syndrome and Autism. What's going on??

I actually work in the area, where you with her all summer?

Has something changed in school? New teacher, new kids, new classroom? Sounds as if something is stressing her out at school. Does the school have a behaviour specialist who can analyse what's going on for her?

Vicki, I was with her all summer. We had a short break away, no trouble at all.

Klein, she has the same class teacher but all the kids are new. It doesn't seem as if the school has a behaviour specialist, they are asking me... In fact I have to be collecting her early every day to save them the trouble. I have a meeting this week with the teacher to explore strategies.

Do you think that maybe she's got so used to being at home with her mammy that now going back to school is difficult for her?

She's 12, never had this problem before. It doesn't make sense.
