Help My daughter is depressed

Apologies for the long post .. but I just need another parents perspective .. support. My dd is 17 and has had feelings of low mood/depression since she was 15. These moods used to culminate in feelings of anger and rage- she would trash her room cry and , she would say she wanted to kill herself - much of this anger is directed towards me .. however when she comes out of her mood she is fun to be around -

In one sense , she is better ..she is less angry but still hostile and can spoil family events by refusing to turn up or participate
she has an active social but doesn't really like any of them particularly and doesn't rate any of them as her BF.. She missed having a Bff- she has always had one but got one reason or another they have drifted away. Her behaviour has an enormous impact on me but also the rest of the family.
What can I do

It must be so hard to see her suffer like this OP. Have you talked to her about going to the GP? Does she talk any responsility for her own Mental Health? Things she could try are a good diet with oily fish at least twice a week, yoga, running, meditation and walks. Some of these Yiu might like to do with her like the walks, running and yoga.

It might also be worth reading up on ADD as people with that condition can struggle controlling their emotions.

How is she doing at college too?

It might also be worth getting MNHQ to move this over to the Teenage Section, there are some helpful and experienced MNers in there Smile
