Slow weight gain

Hi all,

I have a 12 week old DD who at birth weighed 8lb11oz and was the 91st percentile. She had her 6 week check and had dropped to the 75th percentile but the health visitor didn't seem concerned.

Ive been to self weigh today and she weighs 11lb11oz which now puts her at the 25th percentile. This has worried me so I have contacted my health visitor and I'm waiting for a call back.

DD is predominately breast fed with maybe 1 bottle a day. She latches well and doesn't fuss. She is a very happy content baby and very rarely cries. She is however often sick after a feed, normally half hour after and is almost like curdled milk. She doesn't show any signs of discomfort after feeding so I don't think it's wind/reflux etc.

I am worried as it is a big drop in percentiles however she is developing well everywhere else and doesn't seem unwell or unhappy. I wonder if I'm just getting too hung up on the percentile element.

I also think I am comparing her to my DS who was 9lb1oz and was always on 91st percentile. He however was exclusively bottled fed from 6 weeks.

Has anyone experienced similar with their baby and have any advice? Or should I stop obsessing over the percentiles and be happy she is gaining albeit slowly and is a happy baby?

She is gaining weight OP and seems bright and happy so I wouldn’t worry too much. I especially wouldn’t be concerned unless she had been weighed on the same scales each time, at the same time of day, by the same person, you knew that the scales had been recently calibrated and you’re feeding to hunger cues rather than a schedule Smile

My DD had slow weight gain and I found this article from Kellymom useful.

Is there a local Bfing group that you could go to for some support?

Thanks Jilted. I've come to the same conclusion since I wrote my earlier post. There's too many variants and she clearly is a happy baby.

My HV called me back this afternoon and she didn't seem overly concerned as she hasn't actually lot weight but has booked me in for a feeding review next week.

I do have a breastfeeding group at my local Surestart so I will speak to them too.

Thank you for replying 😊

Has the HV said what a feeding review is?

GrumpySausage · 12/09/2018 08:48

She explained it would be an opportunity to discuss how feeding is going and to discuss any concerns I have. She also said they'd weigh DD.

On the phone she indicated she didn't think it was anything to worry about as DD is happy and well but we could discuss in more detail on Monday.

@JoyDiva is your LO not gaining weight as quickly as you would like too?
