Hello.. My daughter will be one year old this Friday. She had a rare kind of epilepsy called infantile spasms when she was 6 months. now she has been seizure free for 5 months. With the help of physical therapy she has caught up with her motor skills. Now she stands with support, crawl, moves a lot and wants to get and explore everything. The problem is that am not sure of her cognitive development so far. She responds to her name and she nods no (when she doesn't want more food for example)...she giggles and smiles when played with and she babbles baba dada na ya wa tata. However, she doesn't point, doesn't give things..she waves bye in any time not related to leaving. she doesn't seem to talk to us while babbling. . She can babble to herself. I am not sure she understands simple instructions. If i tell her story she might babble or do anything else she doesn't seem interested. Am really worried about her development. Can anybody help me? Note: I am not in the US and evaluation in my country is not before 2.

My 15 month old has only just started waving and doesn’t shake his head no yet or point. He is quite advanced in other ways and quite behind in others: like lots of babies, especially those who haven’t had an easy start. It doesn’t sound like a problem to me: she is engaging and communicating.
