You see but you mustn't say anything nasty.

Personally I think Gina Ford's parenting policy is absolutely splendid and I have absolutley no criticisms whatsoever of the "Contented Little Baby Book". I disagree entirely with any ridiculous comparison with ballistic weaponry with babies attached being fired into Middle-Eastern countries. I also entirely refute any suggestion that it should more properly be called the "Contented Little Parent Book" - what a ludicrous suggestion. I applaud wholeheartedly her parenting style and absolutely condemn the suggestion some have raised that her change of heart may be anything whatsoever to do with the publication on 19 July of the her new book "The Contented Baby's First Year: A Month-by-month Guide to Your Baby's Development".

Hooray for Gina Ford!

And can I just add how very attractive she looks in that photo!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 06/06/2007 17:39

Our fishmonger uses Gina Ford's methods on his children.

He does sell lovely fresh fish but I doubt there is a connection.

Daddster · 06/06/2007 18:02

Gina Ford - my hero. I feel giddy even saying her name.

I see that those respectful reviewers on Amazon, having been unconstrained in their ability to praise Gina Ford all this time, have continued to laud her admirable literary works.

she is also very giving and kind hearted in her advice.

Blandmum · 06/06/2007 19:16

Loevly straight spine on all her books. And all the pages are numbered. Very helpful.

kiskidee · 06/06/2007 19:19

"she is also very giving and kind hearted in her advice"

for a price.

fillyjonk · 06/06/2007 19:21

you cannot fault her advice on the washing of white woollens

it is superb

And JUST the sort of thing you need to get right when you have just had you first onlyist baby.

BishyBarneyBee · 06/06/2007 19:21

recycling is really good for the planet.

chilledmama · 06/06/2007 19:22

All the bashing...but her book really did help me and my DS...

SpareWheel · 06/06/2007 19:33

Bashing, chilledmama? Heaven forbid. Not a bit of it. We are here with the single-minded purpose of applauding, nay, abasing ourselves at the feet of, Gina Ford.

Chilledmama is a 100% correct description of any Mother who has ever read GF's books.

Chilledmama also sounds funnily enough like a pseudonym which GF might use herself.

Pruuni · 06/06/2007 19:40

Hooray! Yes we can discuss her methods.
I just find that after a year of not being able to do so...I have nothing to say that isn't widely inferable from the general media.

Nice Pyrrhic victory, though. In addition to excellent advice on washing woollens.

chilledmama · 06/06/2007 19:47

SpareWheel- Are yousuggesting that all my wollens look lovely???

SpareWheel · 06/06/2007 19:49

Just noticed Amazon also allow you to arrange reviewers' book reviews by Most Helpful First (i.e. those reviews people most approved of).

I find that almost as helpful as the sublime Contended Little Baby Book!

SpareWheel · 06/06/2007 19:51

No, chilledmama, but I retain a suspicion that you are a (beautifully-laundered) wolf in woolly clothing !

Mercy · 06/06/2007 19:53

And don't forget the very helpful suggestion to iron the labels on your baby's clothes.

It was a life saver in the early days.

lubyluby · 06/06/2007 20:04

i have nothing to say on this topic as i would not want to get mumsnet into trouble again! however i have to say i found the reviews on amazon particualrly helpful in influencing whether i should buy the book or not!

Desiderata · 06/06/2007 20:08

Va ..... Gina Ford

Pruuni · 06/06/2007 20:10

luby did you buy it, then?

TootyFrooty · 06/06/2007 20:15

Her index is really helpful. If you look up a word or phrase it tells you what page to go to. Brilliant!

SpareWheel · 06/06/2007 21:25

Here's a thought - why don't we all go on Amazon and let people know what a great book the Contented Little Baby Book is. We can click on "helpful" to approve those reviews which tell us how very useful and rewarding her methods are.

Gina is the best.

Flame · 06/06/2007 21:32

I have been greatly helped by many of the reviews and have let the kind people at amazon know how I feel

Daddster · 07/06/2007 00:03

I found the Contented Little Baby Book particularly useful as I now no longer have to wear a watch - I can tell the time of day simply by reference to my baby's regular feeding, sleeping and nappy-filling routine. If only John Harrison had known, he could have saved himself a lot of bother with all that silly chronometer business - silly fellow.

Gina Ford - we salute you.

Boo, hiss to MorningPaper - fie upon you. Take that and that !
