Vaginal Skin Tag

Hi, My daughter is nearly 4 and has a vaginal tag, she was born with it and at birth they said it would go away. Today she was crying that the area was hurting (she still wears pull ups for bed) so I put some cream on it and the tag is very visible.
I'm concerned that when shes older it may make her self conscience as at the moment I don't think shell be able to use tampons.
Has anyone else had this worry or had one removed from themselves or there child?

My baby girl has one. I was told it would drop off but if it hadn't by age 1, to take her to the doctors and ask about having it removed. Have you seen a GP?

I got a few skin tags during pregnancy, I managed to get rid of them by using a thin slice of garlic with a plaster over it to keep in place, changed it daily and they were gone in 7-10 days. Same sort of area so not the best smell lol but rather that for a week than the skin tags. I'd just wait til it's not sore before you try it though. It also wasn't painful it just dried them up and they fell off.

*sorry OP I took it to mean you meant the general area but having re-read your post I see maybe not. If it's an accessible area and a plaster would hold I'd still maybe try it?

Spugzbunny I 2as told when she was born it would go away itself over time, 3 and a half year though and still not gone, were at docs on Wednesday so hopefully will get something sorted

IF it’s hurting her she needs to have it removed because it’s probably catching or rubbing on her underwear.

Let me know what they say @Ikkleme. When my girl gets to a year I think I'd rather have it removed for the same reasons you said. Also I don't want to leave it too late as if she's late primary, kids can start to get cruel.

@spugzbunny been to docs turns out it's not a skin tag it's actually the shape of her vagina, doc said that there's nothing to worry about as all are different and it may change when she's a teenager and her hormones kick in, not going to lie, I was gutted to here my child has such a sensitive abnormality but as long as we don't make a fuss of it I think she'll be ok, may be a strange talk when she is a teenager If using tampons ends up being an issue.

Personally I think I'd push for a referral just because I don't feel a GP is qualified to make that diagnosis. For a start, the vagina is the canal itself. Does he mean that is shaped abnormally or does he mean the vulva is? I completely understand how this must feel though. Same boat, just with a much younger child!
