they need full fat to gain weight, so I would want them to have full fat, but a week before 1 bday will be ok

MerlinsBeard · 04/06/2007 14:23

its whole milk u can switch to after 12 months. semi doesn't have enough calories for a growing child.

lulumama · 04/06/2007 14:27

needs to be full fat, i;m afraid....they need it until around aged 5 i think...but you can swap a week before his birthday

kittylette · 04/06/2007 14:27

my 2.5 yr old sons never had fullfat, only semi and hes in the 75th percentile, he has a very good diet.

I cant force them to drink it if they dont like it!

oh well fair enought, you know your own children the best. my dd is only on 9th centile and is very small, so she has high fat foods.
You did ask what our opinions where....

kittylette · 04/06/2007 14:31

oh i know,

hes going to finish his formula tin tomorrow so i just needed to know if i could just put him on milk,

hes tried fullfat milk at my mums when she was minding him and i hadnt sent his formula and he hated it, wouldn't drink it,

so i cant realy see how i can make him have it if he doesnt like it.

I think as long as they continue with their good diet it will be fine

maybe its the transition to milk he is finding difficult? have you tried mixing formula milk with cows milk?

dd made the switch really easily (smug)
but I have heard other mums mixing until their dc got used to the taste

melrose · 04/06/2007 14:34

Just be glad that he will drink it, my friend dd has refused any milk from about 10 months (is now a very healthy 3 year old!)

kittylette · 04/06/2007 14:35

he drinks semiskimmed fine,

i think full fat is too sickly for him

i agree with melrose.my dd2 hasnt touched milk of any kind since she was 13 months.any milk is better than none.

oh and my older 3 all started having cows milk at 10/11 months as they went off formula.they are all fine+healthy.
