I’m at breaking point. Dd turned 2 last month and at the same time we moved her into a bed as she was starting to climb out the cot/banging into the bars and waking up.

She goes bed around 7/8pm with me having to lie next to her to get her to sleep. She then wakes at 4am without a doubt and comes into our room into our bed. She shares a bunk bed with her older sister so I thought putting a stair gate on her door might wake her sister up more.

She gets into our bed but doesn’t sleep. Just messes around and gets up and down.

I’m so tired. Last night she was fighting going to sleep and didn’t fall asleep until 10.30! She’s been up since 4 again!

Help :(

My son is 2.6 and is similar. Was a good sleeper but now will not go to sleep unless one of us is with him or he is in our bed. Sometimes he doesn’t fall asleep until 9.30. He the wakes up in the nights and comes to find us and is then up for the day at 5. I can no longer get him to nap in his cot but he falls asleep as soon as he is in the car seat. I then bring him in but he only sleeps for about 30 minutes. I have also taken down the cot sides as he was throwing himself out.
I have no idea what I’m doing at the moment...

Have you read about the wake to sleep technique? You disturb just enough to rouse them a luttle earlier than they would naturally wake then they fall into a second sleep cycle. I cannot ever imagine having the balls to test it myself, I'd be too scared I'd inflict an even earlier start upon myselfGrin

My DD has just turned 2 and often wakes up between 4-530 .. confusing as Sometimes she spoils us with 13 hour sleeps and 830 lay ins. It’s like she banks sleep and then boom! Wide awake 4am.
She whines / wriggles a lot her in her sleep and this wakes her up sometimes .. and we have to lay with her to go back to sleep. It’s driving me and partner mad, we don’t know what’s going on!

I actually read about the rousing before awake earlier today. And I am going to try it.

Could she be hungry or cold and that’s causing her to wake OP?

We had this delightful phase - at ages 6 & 7 they’ve very slowly pushed it back to 6, perhaps 6:30.
Nothing ever made a difference, at least now they’re old enough to help themselves to cereal and iPads while I get an extra hour in bed!

My DD did this - it was painful. I introduced a gro-clock and it has saved our mornings! It took a week or so but repeatedly explaining that the star meant it was nighttime and for sleeping, and we only get out of bed when the sun is up, worked. It comes with a little book too, which helped cement the concept for her.

You could use a small nightlight on a timer alternatively - explain and reenforce that we only get up when the light is on and when it's dark it's sleep time.

Best of luck - I hope it improves for you soon!
