Worried about my 2 year old

I'm worried about my 2 year old. He is about to turn 3 in November.

He still doesn't talk yet. He speaks just words such as Apple, shoe, uncle and auntie. Just of recent he started saying Bye to people

He screams out of excitement when he's watching tv however Vice Versa when being on a train he blocks his ears with his fingers, when we are in church and they clap and cheer he blocks his ears and cries really loudly.

Going to playgroup I see mums giving their kids food and their kids enjoy the food they eat however considering my sons allergies the food he eats (as we changed foods) he used to finish them until he turned 2 but now he hardly finishes half of the food you give him and when he feels he is full he tends to remove whatever is remaining in his mouth yet he sleeps throughout the night has multivitamins in his milk and he is not underweight

He understands most things you tell him to do but is this a sign of Autism or what ?

Would like to know if anyone else is going through this or know anything Smile

I would certainly speak to your HV or GP and ask for a referral to a Paediatrician.
What you describe suggests he may have a hypersensitivity to noise, which can be associated with autism, but can exist without autism.

I'm not really clear what you mean about the food, sorry.

Re speech, yes, I would be expecting more than single words at 2yr9m, but there are many reasons that children have delayed speech. Most common is for them to either have, or have had in the past, issues with their hearing, so I would also ask for a referral to audiologist to see if there are any issues with his hearing.

Hi Nadz
I am going though similar worries at the moment with my little girl who is 2.4 and barely talking at all (see my post from earlier called Advice please: Speech delay and autism). It’s so hard to know whether it’s just a normal speech delay or whether it’s something more, isn’t it. My daughter is getting a hearing test and then we are seeing the Health Visitor again in 3 months. Good luck with your little boy, hope all is okay and he starts talking more soon :-) xxx
