how often should my 2 1/2 yr old dd be having accidents?

i was sooooooooooooooo lucky with my ds. i potty trained him at 2.1 and it took about 10 days and since then he has had 3 accidents in total and he is now nearly 4!

stupidly, i assumed my dd would be the same!!! started potty training her at 2.4 and she took about 10 days to 'get it', but since then she has been having about one accident a week either a poo or wee.

i just wondered what the average was, i realise i was extrememly lucky with my ds.also, should i be getting cross with her or not? sometimes i literally ask her a minute before if she needs to go, she says 'no' and then the next minute wees everywhere.

Is it just a bit, or a full on wee? Ds is 2.7 and we have a small wee accident about once a week atm. He has been trained since Jan.

most of the time its most of a wee! enough to make a mess but she has still managed to hold some in when i plonk her on the toilet to finish off

she sounds as if she is just not ready to me. If she's weeing the second after saying no then it could be that she's just not recognising the signs for herself yet.

Plenty of people don't start till nearer three.

I certainly wouldn't be getting cross with a 2.4 year old about this. Neither she or you need the hassle of that I'm sure...just stick her back in pull ups and try later on in the summer?

I answered this on another your other thread. One accident a week is normal at this stage - with each accident she is learning more and more about her own bladder capacity.

Miriam Stoppard (I think)gives a good comment on this situation:

you don't expect a baby to learn how to walk without falling down, so do not expect a toddler to potty train without having accidents.

i like that belgo, thank you! i hadn't thought of it like that. like i said my ds was such a superstar i kind of expected the same from her. not fair on her i know!

yes, once you realise accidents are a normal part of potty training, potty training suddenly becomes a lot less stressful.

Another fun part of motherhood! My daughter was dry in the day before she was 2 but I didn't even start with my son until he was 3. Both are still wet at night though my son has been having more dry nights than wet lately. My baby is nearly 2 and I am wondering what to do with him. I sometimes wonder if I waited too long with my eldest but the baby doesn't have the language yet.
