Bringing sibling to SALT assessment

DD has an initial assessment with SALT tomorrow for a developmental stammer. Its a 45 min appointment. I had a sitter for her 6 year old brother but this has fallen though so he will need to come with us. Just wondering if anyone could let me know if this will be ok or if the assessor will not be happy to have him present? Thanks

I had to take my 4yo when my 2yo had his assessment. I told my 4yo what was going on and that it was really important that she didn't try and help DC2, couldn't answer any of the questions etc. I took a new sticker book for her, sat her in the corner & she did that whilst the therapist played with DC2 and I watched. At the end, DC1 was allowed to play with DC2 ajdnthe toys whilst the therapist and I chatted.
I think that that is a long way of saying that, provided your DS won't be a distraction , it won't matter.

I think that will depend on the assessor. We've had various ones over the years and some are very much they'll deal with the child round what they want to do, and others are this is what we are doing and if the child won't do it we can't get anywhere.

Needless to say the former was much more successful than the latter.

What I'd do is open the conversation with an apology and say the babysitting fell through at the last minute.

I'm having to take my 6 year old to the younger child's therapy (speech and OT) at the moment and, to be honest, the staff are just going to have to deal with it- I mentioned it on the phone when they arranged appointments with me that it was the school holidays and with 2 appointments a week there's no way I can find that much childcare for the sibling.

Tablet with headphones, colouring and bribery seems to be working.
