Do I wake him up? 7 weeks old

My seven week old has had quite an irregular sleeping pattern. He's quite forward for his age, generally very alert and responsive when awake, has amazing control of his head/neck and enjoys tummy time. But his sleeping pattern is generally v random. He's pretty good through the night, wakes up maybe twice for a feed. However today he's barely opened his eyes, just waking for sleepy feeds and falls back asleep - someone said I should force him to stay awake but that just seems mean Confused Yesterday though, he was awake from 1pm to 1am with just two 20 minute naps, since then he's just been sleeping / waking for feeds. Do I make him wake up so that he'll sleep tonight or leave it to him?

No, he’s so little! Let him sleep

How is he this evening @grace7?

@jiltedjohnsjulie

It's 1.05am and he's finally drifted off in my arms. Been awake since about 5pm, he seems to fight sleep already! Hoping it'll mean a good night for me though...

Oops, spoke too fast. Just looked across to see little man is wide awake again. Hmm

He sounds perfect, if a little mixed up between day and night. I’m not sure how you would force him to stay awake during the day, but I’d try to wake him every 3 hours to try and feed him if you can. If he’s doing long stretches of sleep you ultimately want those at night rather than the day.

Make sure you get him outside in the day once or ideally twice as sunlight can help with sleep and try to keep days busy and bright and nights quiet and dark. He’ll sort it out eventually Smile
