Little tantrums, lots of screaming and wilful behaviour, throwing things(quite good overarm),refusing to hold our hands or be guided by us ,jumping and hurling and climbing up anything she can find. All of which we are coping with but then she bit me out of the blue the other dayand has nipped me again today and tried several times to do it again ,now i know that some children do this but i don't know why?
My instinct was to shout firmly"NO that is naughty no biting"
How should i have reacted do you think?

dd1 did it when very overtired, and/or teething, at that age.

I would let her know it hurt, by saying 'ouch' (which I couldn't help saying anyway!), then a firm but calm 'no, no biting, biting hurts'. And if holding her, put her down for a minute.

Obviously, kids need to be taught that biting is not ok - but I don't think its actually naughty, at that age. I suspect its a primal reaction to teething pain, anger, and even sometimes excitement.

But definitely painful, and not ok
