5 year old has a meltdown when getting dressed

Hi

My 5 year old refuses to get dressed. It’s not that she doesn’t want to get dressed it’s that she can’t decide what to wear. I don’t give her a choice to begin with but she screams when I put on the clothes I’ve chosen. She takes off whatever I’ve put on her or refuses to put it on. I try getting other clothes but she refuses them. I try asking her what she wants to wear but she just spends hours looking and starts crying about how she doesn’t know what to choose and she wants something that matches. I don’t know what her idea of matching is!!!

Today we’ve trying to get her dressed for two hours. I’ve tried forcing her (gently) into something - she goes crazy and just takes it off. I’ve tried telling her we’ll go places without her. I’ve tried incentivising her. Tried reward charts but nothing is working. She’s due to start school in August and I’m hoping that school uniform will help but until then I can’t get out the house. I’ve been late for work for a month.

She seems genuinely upset. I get that some of it is a control thing but even when she has the control and i let her decide she is incapable of making the decision - it makes her so upset ether way - if she has the choice or if not.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I am at breaking point with this. I am trying so so hard to be patient but I’m struggling.

Any help?
