1yo biting instead of kissing?!

Has anyone else experienced this?

Instead of giving a kiss with lips, she sort of opens her mouth and locks it around my chin or nose! Now she has teeth it's very painful!

It's not like she's biting down with her mouth closed and she makes a "mwah" noise like we do to kiss and hugs you at the same time, so I'm fairly sure she actually thinks she's being affectionate!

All the advice on biting seems to be in the case of aggressive behaviour. I've tried touching her lips and saying "kisses" and showing her but she doesn't seem to get it. She's done it since about 6 months and I thought she'd eventually realise she was doing it wrong...

Just a bit worried that she thinks I'm rejecting her affection coz I have to pull her off! I try to give her lots of "real" kisses in return.

Yes I think it's normal for that age of 12 months. My son used to do the same thing, then he eventually started getting it on the lips but would still bite our lips (like you say not hard because he wasn't trying to use his teeth on purpose), then after a while of that he started to click on that you only press your lips against the other persons and make the mwwah sound which he was doing with flat lips not puckered lol, it wasn't until he was about 2 that he started pursing his lips to give proper kisses. Some kids must "get it" sooner than others but also totally normal for some.
