DS, 2.1 yrs blatantly lies when he's done a poo. "DS, have you done a poo?" "nooooooo mama"

at the moment, just to change his nappy i have to use wild forms of distraction, including: reading a book, giving him something I wouldnt normally let him have, change it when he is having his warm milk from bottle/lidded cup in the morning so is distracted.

I have started doing this in the last month, because I can no longer afford to be late for work. He has been fighting this since he was born. No exaggeration....[exhausted]

AngharadGoldenhand · 25/05/2007 23:19

Respect mp .
Mine couldn't even sit upright by themselves at 9 months, let alone on a potty!

lissie · 25/05/2007 23:19

lol vvqv! must be an april boy thing!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/05/2007 23:22

I feel marginally better knowing that I am not alone with this......

Still, on the bright side, we arent having to gaffer tape his nappy on at night time....

lissie · 25/05/2007 23:25

ds runs around the flat shouting wee wee, wee wee.

its even better when he does it on the bus

Aitch · 25/05/2007 23:25

lol, that's another reason that i'm keen to get dd out of nappies... since she was nine months old she's HATED getting them changed. screaming, kicking, scratching, leaping and twirling like a sodding salmon, it's absolutely gruelling.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/05/2007 23:33

It is indeed, aitch...

duchesse · 25/05/2007 23:45

I don't know anything about potty-training- we only started introducing my oldest to the potty at around 2.5, and he still shat and peed in his pants until nearly 4. Over 4 for pee. I still remember him hiding behind the door to pee in his pants and trousers in peace, aged (well) over 3.

Middle one did herself at 15 months, because she had chicken pox and the nappies hurt. Decided at 2.5 that going to the loo was much less fun that peeing in the pants, so stopped bothering. For the next 5 years...

Little one never fully dry until nearly 7.

None of them reliably dry at night until 8-9.

My family does not appear to be typical, I'm pleased to say.

hunkermunker · 25/05/2007 23:45

Hahahahahahahahahahaahahhahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaahahahhahahaahahhahahahahahhahahahahhaahahhahahahahahahha

at the thought of having a child who poos once, reliably, first thing in the morning and not CONTINUOUSLY it would seem throughout the day.

FIVE poos today. FIVE. FIIIIIIIIVEEEEEEEEEEE

And, no, he's not ill. He just Poos A Lot.

I have two in nappies now, one is 3.1, the other is 16mo. I think DS1 would probably just about manage to wee most of the time on a potty, but poos, no (although he usually only does one a day). But DS1 would NOT sit on a potty until a couple of months ago - not at all. And he had one from 12m, when I needed to get a urine sample from him - so it's not like I didn't try early.

I am going to eBay DS2 if he doesn't stop pooing so much though

I would like anyone who says "oh, it's so easy to just put them on the potty and they wee/poo, can't understand why anyone would have a 2yo untrained" kind of things to consider the Incredible Pooing Child and his older brother, Hysterical Potty Refusenik in future, please. Or just offer to have them for a fortnight and potty train them?

Is it Wrong to feed your baby white bread and chips to constipate them?

duchesse · 25/05/2007 23:47

god, hunkermunker, your post has just brought right back the horror that were my son's toddler nappies. Every.damn.one. Sloppy. Nauseatingly pongy. 6-7 times a day.

That was fun.

Not.

hunkermunker · 25/05/2007 23:49

Actually, I've just remembered he'd pooed before his bath this evening.

Six.

And that's an average day.

Yes, Duchesse, they're Not Nice.

But, funnily enough, they're infinitely preferable to scraping out pants.

duchesse · 25/05/2007 23:49

Also, hm, have you tried Baby Rice? Worked a treat the few times we tried feeding it to as food. Rice as medication. Hmmm...

Aitch · 25/05/2007 23:50
duchesse · 25/05/2007 23:51

I hate talking about potty-training. I feel like a complete failure.

hunkermunker · 25/05/2007 23:51

Duchesse, I might try risotto again - white rice...hmm...

He eats lots of fruit, which is, I think, part of the reason. And he's still bfed, which also is a loosener, I think.

But fgs, I'd love to have a meal, just once, that didn't include small sweet brown-eyed boy going all red and doing the straining smile.

Aitch · 25/05/2007 23:51
hunkermunker · 25/05/2007 23:52

And DS1 going "Jamie's pooing, Mummy. Again"

fgs

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/05/2007 23:52

As opposed to using baby rice for...? [intrigued]

DS often has days where he poos almost as much as your DS2, hunker. Usually during the week, having spent time at their grandparents who feed them on fruit most of the time......

Aitch · 25/05/2007 23:53

so it's wrong of me to be laughing, yes?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/05/2007 23:54

LOL, just like our house where DD moans "eeugggh mummy xxx stinks, poo eeeeee"

I think our two were in competition last week at yours hunker

hunkermunker · 25/05/2007 23:54
hunkermunker · 25/05/2007 23:55

We still coming over on Monday, VVV?

I think they were competing. I think DS2 won...by a nose [vom]

duchesse · 25/05/2007 23:55

VVV- almost the only thing we ever fed to him that made his turds look like turds. Unfortunately it constipated him, so we discontinued it after about the first three times. We were young and foolish, and believed that's what you gave to weaning babies.

NoBiggy · 25/05/2007 23:57

Isn't there some foolproof method where you sit the child on the potty then put their hand in a bowl of water, and it makes them wee?

I tried it, didn't work. But my grasp of it is a bit poor, I probably did it wrong.

Or it's a load of cobblers.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/05/2007 00:00

duchesse...i thought you were going to say wallpaper paste or something.....

of course you are hunker...I am working in the morning, but will be finished and home by 12.15pm so not a problem, and of course I dont need to be there when you arrive, as DP is more than capable of opening the door and making you a cuppa in my absence
