DD1 ~ aged 4.6 ~ has started to refer to everything as "Cool!"

Is this is? Is that the word she is going to use to describe everything she likes or finds interesting until she leaves home and finds the word 'juvenille'?

I know she is likely to come out with much worse as time goes on, I just didn't expect "Cool" to be part of her vocabulary quite so soon. I cannot help cringing when she says it.

The problem is, I cannot think of any other words for her to use in its place.

Does anyone else live in a household where everything is cool

You're lucky. Ds1 does that too, and he's only 3.5 Another of his favouries is 'oh, man'.

margoandjerry · 24/05/2007 07:51

My nephews have had to be banned from saying "innit" - they are 5 and 3

They also call each other "man" as in "hey man, give me my power ranger, innit"

McDreamy · 24/05/2007 07:52

We have "oh man" as well! I think it has come from Swiper in Dora for us and I like Dora!!

DD said yesterday "Rock abd roll dude" - no idea where that has come from!!!

tjacksonpfc · 24/05/2007 08:38

my dd latest one at 2 years 10 months when asked where something is. is its right there mummy dont know where she got the right there thing from.

schneebly · 24/05/2007 08:49

I have a 3.5 year old who says cool, oh man (dora), dude (my fault) and who is the master at air guitar (also my fault ) I spiked his hair in the bath the other day and he asked if he was cool like green day!!!

3sEnough · 24/05/2007 08:53

Snigger - wait until she meets a friend who has an older brother - then you'll get 'no thanks poo bum' which is the answer I occasionally get from my 2 yr old!! (the boy to blame though is my ds!)

colditz · 24/05/2007 08:53

MMM

You could ban it and teach her to say "Simply delightful!" instead, but then the other kids at school will look at her like she is an alien from Mars. Let her say "Cool!" like everyone else her age.

Saturn74 · 24/05/2007 08:55

Insist she replaces the word with 'spiffing' or 'phenomenal'.

colditz · 24/05/2007 08:56

Ds1 is 4 and he says "Oh WOW!" a lot

fillyjonk · 24/05/2007 08:57

oh gosh i still say that way too much and i am 29

ah well

fillyjonk · 24/05/2007 08:57

fillyjonk · 24/05/2007 08:58

colditz · 24/05/2007 08:58

Jolly good show!

Saturn74 · 24/05/2007 08:58

everything is quite cool when you're 4 though.

DaddyJ · 24/05/2007 08:58

Wickid!

tortoiseSHELL · 24/05/2007 08:59

Ds1 has 'Cool' 'Oh Man' (from Bob the builder) 'Guys' - as in 'Hi Guys', and 'Oh My GOSH' which I have no idea where it comes from - we certainly don't say that!

Saturn74 · 24/05/2007 08:59

"remarkably interesting incident"

ekra · 24/05/2007 09:08

Spiffing I think I would be more shocked and concerned if she was using that word. Perhaps cool isn't so bad after all.

awfully decent

i actually know kids who speak like that

they are NOT mine

FrannyandZooey · 24/05/2007 09:14

Oh dear ds tends to say, not surprisingly

"fab"

or "fabulous"

"oh MANNNN"

and

"WOWWW"

I think it's, erm, cool

schneebly · 24/05/2007 09:15

Franny! DS1 says 'Fabaluss' too! I think it is v cute

Jaynerae · 24/05/2007 10:04

DD 3.5 listens to a tweenies tape in the car all the time - and has picked up 'whatever' from Bella! We also have 'oh Man' from Dora.

katelyle · 24/05/2007 10:09

Everything was cool for ds until he went to school. Now it's "well wicked" And he's 6. Think yourselves lucky!
