Hi all,

I'm worried about my DD and I don't know if I should be.
She's my only child and I think she's, at best, on the low end of "normal" regarding her speech.

She has a good vocabulary. I stopped counting at 150 words months ago. Since then, she keeps learning new words everyday and sometimes I'm surprised by words she says appropriately that I had no idea she knew. For instance, the other day she said: "hum, this is delicious" instead of the normal "this is good".

She can say 3/4 words sentences but the problem is, in between 2 sentences that are clear, she will talk gibberish, real gibberish like a baby babble. that's maybe 50% of her speech.

The other problem is she doesn't articulate very well so people who don't live with us don't understand a lot of what she says.

Last thing is, I'm not sure if her understanding is on par with her peers. She can follow complex commands like "take the bottle on the table and put it in the fridge" but she can't answer simple things like "what's your name", "how old are you", "what are you eating"...

Is this normal ? Should I get her to a SLT ?

That sounds normal and like she has the ability to keep improving so I'd give her some time.
Try not to compare to others, one of my friends sons took until he was about 4 to catch up with my oldest daughters speech but now they're completely the same to talk to.

Also my younger daughter is nearly 2 (expected delays from medical issues), she can only say ba ba for bye has no other words or attempts at words. Her speech therapist has still said its not that unusual as there's a very broad age range when it comes to speech development.

I think that's fine. There's a big leap between 2.5 and 3
