Toddler: horrendous mood when waking up

My three-year old boy consistently wakes up in a horrendous mood every morning. He has a lovely room, it's cool and comfortable, he sleeps well in the evenings. But when he wakes, he's awful: shouting, moody, defiant. It'll last for anywhere between 5 and 60 mins!

Does anyone else have this issue and if so, what do you do? We always make sure he goes to sleep in a happy mood and set him up for a pleasant tomorrow.

Oh snap! We've had terrible morning grumps here for the past couple of months. DD has just turned two.

She wakes up upset, and is cross and cries for about 20 minutes or so. It's not a good start to the day!

She's a great sleeper and all seems fine otherwise. Only other thing we've noticed is that we think she's started to have dreams - has been crying out in the night and wakes up talking about things that haven't happened IRL.

Only thing we've found helps a bit is giving her her morning bottle in her cot, to give her a chance to 'come to' on her own, rather than taking her in with us as soon as she wakes up.
