Weaning at 4 months

No bashing, I’m a first time mum and I haven’t started to wean my 4 month old...I’ve always been adamant i’d stick to guidelines and wait until 6 months. I’m just wondering (correct me if I’m wrong please!!) if a bit of fibre in the form of vegetable or fruit purée would ease my LG’s constipation? She usually poos once a day, rarely twice in a day, and every now and again she will go two days between poos... it’s Sunday evening now and she hasn’t been since Friday morning. Around 2 months ago I went to the GP about her occasional two days between poos, and he prescribed lactulose but I’m reluctant to use this because he said it can increase wind and if she becomes any windier then i’m almost certain that her farts would ricochet her cot across the room! Please help because I do want to wait before weaning her, but if anyone has found that introducing vegetable purée into LO’s diet has eased constipation then i’d be eager to maybe start purees at around the 5 month mark as opposed to 6 months. Thank you.

Is the poo still soft when it comes? My 2 always went 2-3 days between poos but weren't constipated, it was just their normal bowel habit. Its not really about time between poos but whether it is normal consistency or hard and dry

My lo could go five days between poos - as far as I know that’s perfectly normal. Anything up to ten days is fine?
The guidelines to start weaning at six months are for all babies, even constipated ones.
Could you speak to your HV before introducing solids? Sometimes speaking it over with a professional helps.

Poos are sort of plasticine texture if she doesn’t go daily, and she constantly squirms in discomfort if she hasn’t been for a while...it’s awful to see her unhappy! I’m just clutching at straws figuring out how to get her tummy to stop giving her grief 😣

Is your baby breast or formula fed? I really wouldn't start weaning just yet unless it was on medical advice. Try the lactulose and consider offering some cooled boiled water between feeds. Always worth a chat with your HV.
