Horrendous post nap tantrums

Does anyone have any experiences of this? DS is almost 17 months old and has started having the most dramatic tantrums when he wakes from lunch sleep. Back arching, so upset - throws food / water / anything you offer him away. Seems to have no impact making naps earlier / later, and doesn’t seem to make a difference whether he sleeps for a short time or hours. He wakes up wimpering and it just progresses quickly when I get him and can take almost an hour to calm him properly.
It’s exhausting and makes going to visit people or having people over in the afternoon near impossible!

Does anyone have any experience of similar and can offer me a miracle cure?!

My little boy was like this, he grew out of it thankfully. Mostly anyway! I found FaceTiming grandma/auntie/anyone who would answer was a useful distraction. Or episodes of Thomas. It is horribly though, you have my sympathy.

Try a couple of Cranial osteopathy sessions, it can really work wonders.

Yes, DS was like this and grew out of it about the same time he grew out of naps. Key was to have something exciting to immediately do together after. Also food.

Also try to let them wake naturally, so make some noise/light, and let them think they woke up on their own, rather than waking them directly.
