6 year old clothes issues

This is my first post on a forum but I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a 6 year old daughter who has spent the last few months becoming very fastidious about her clothes. She decided a couple of years ago that she wouldn't wear trousers or tights or leggings and will only wear dresses. At the beginning of year 1 she had some knee length socks and knee high boots. Recently she has been pulling the socks up so high that she has put holes in the top and refuses to take them off. She wears them days at a time until I pull them off her and have had to bin them as the washing machine cannot rescue them! Her boots are worn thin, have holes and the soles are coming off. I bought her the same socks but she hates them because they are not the ones she has worn to death and has screamed over any suggestion that she wears other socks or shoes. I am planning to bin the boots too soon but I'm dreading the reaction even though I have warned her that it will be happening.
She also refuses to wear the school summer dresses that she wore last year with no problems. She will not change from t-shirts, grey pinafore dresses, long socks and boots despite the weather.
I am looking for seamless socks for her. Does anyone have any similar experiences and is this normal for a 6 year old girl? I have a 10 year old boy as well and didn't go through this with him.
Thank you in advance.

Some children can have sensory processing differences that make them hypersensitive to sensations that the rest of us can filter out. This can mean that they find it hard to cope with clothes that are new or different uncomfortable. Could that be the reason here?
