Won't watch tv

Does anyone elses child not watch the tv unless you are sitting next to them? My ds 3.8years has never sat and watched tv on his own and is also very fussy about which programmes he will watch. I know I shouldn't complain really but sometimes it would just be nice to have 2 minutes to myself. He also never plays on his own!

We don't own a TV, really solves that problem.

But it sounds like he's a bit insecure if he refuses to be on his own to play - could you try leaving him for a minute extra a day until he gets used to playing on his own for twenty minutes?

well done for no tv! I don't think I could. I did think it may be insecurity but he is generally a very outgoing boy with lot's of confidence - it's quite embarassing sometimes as he says hello to everyone we pass. I have tried the whole egg timer thing but either he didn't get the idea of it or he is just too clever! Thanks for the reply though - I guess I should cherish the time I have with him now as it won't be long and he will be a typical teenager locking himself in his room.
