10 mth old with bathplug odsession!

i know this is a silly problem, but my cheeky ds keeps pulling the bath plug out almost as soon as he gets in the bath! he pulls it out, i put it back, he pulls it out, i put it back..and so on and so on...needless to say bathtimes are getting quite short. anyone got any tips,its very cheeky and makes me laugh, but i'm sure i wont have time to wash his hair soon!

I have no advice I am afraid ! I have a 10 month old who does exactly the same thing! I try distraction which works for a second, but to DD, the bathplug is her fave toy!
Its like everything else. Room full of toys, fave toys are baby monitor, wetwipes, telephone, car keys.

My 10 month DS also loves the bathplug- and is an absolute terror in the bath. Sounds like yours thinks that this is a great game. So at least y'all are having fun, .

Our LO also likes the taps and the sprinkler attachment thingy. We are trying to discourage this habit as our hot tap can get scalding hot at times. What we have done is let him watch the bath, with him standing on the floor- not in the tub, and on the other side of his daddy (in charge of bathtimes). When the water is ready, and DS is calm enough to cope, we sometimes put him in (away from taps, plugs) facing the other direction where there are other toys floating. He does prefer the utility items to toys but sometimes "out of sight" works.

nachomama - if your ds likes the taps/sprinkler attatchment, ELC do a toy shower which can be suctioned onto the bath which he might enjoy - push a large button and it syphons water from the bath so no danger of too hot. At 10 months he might struggle to work it himself - dd is 20 months and has to use both hands.

I had to laugh at this one, my 10 month old is a nightmare in the bath as well. Luckily we have a twist thing for the plug but instead he is obsessed with the taps, shiny bath handles, but the worst is that he can see the bottles on the shelf at the slanting end of the bath and tries to climb at the slidy side. No advice I am afraid but lots of understanding!

I was thinking tonight that if your little ones insist on taking out the plug, you can buy more time by placing a flannel over the plug hole - noticed tonight when dd's sponge got sucked down that end as we were emptying that it slows the whole process down quite a bit. Hey it might work long enough to wash hair etc!

Funny - mine do the same and it drives me mad! I just try to distract them with other toys but doesn't always work

We've just got a new bath mat that covers the plug and so ds can't get to it anymore. An added bonus!

Bathmat over the plug and tie a towel round the taps or shower head or whatever they are getting at.

And don't laugh or put the plug back in - that's what's making it a game. If he takes it out look dismayed and say 'Oh no, the water's all going to go away' and let the bath end. He'll get the message after a while and it doesn't matter if he doesn't get his hair washed every time.

Well what worked for me with ds1 was to say, 'ok, bathtimes finished' in a cheery voice, pausing only to swiftly run a soapy flannel over him, then GOT HIM STRAIGHT OUT.

I think it happened about once after that.

Our ds loves his bath and loves pulling the plug out at the end and watching the water flow away. He knows that's the end of the bath then. So I agree with Kathy's post. Just let him do it at the end. Also our ds has eczema and has not had his hair washed in 18 months! It just gets rinsed in bath water!

Bless all their cotton socks in the bath! My DD, 10months, is obsessed with sucking bath water from whatever we are trying to clean her with. She grabs it, dips in water, sucks and swallows water out, then dips it in again. Won't be distracted by any toys. We abandoned sponges cos it seemed a bit yuck and now I just use a muslin, quickly wash her all over with it top to toe, then just hand it over. It's the first thing she ever got stroppy about me taking away from her, because obviously it's not an expensive or clever toy...

Sorry to hijack your thread jane but anyone got any tips for getting my ds (9mo) to enjoy his bathtime? He just screams and cries lately? Dont know how to make it more pleasurable he has lots of toys and sponges but just howls and wants to get out? Could it be because bedtime is near? We did take him out his normal bedtime routine due to holiday where he was showered with dh which he loved.
Any advice would really be appreciated tia x

bighotmama, have you tried bathing him with dh or yourself if he enjoyed that on hol? if he likes showers then he can't be worried about water in his eyes, so wonder why he doesn't like the bath....does he like swimming? my ds used to love lying down in the bath and splashing everywhere when he was that age - very messy but he loved it.

Merry, he has been in bath with me and dh in the past but had started enjoying bathtime as he was always splashing and kicking. But since coming back from our hols last week he has cried every bathtime. Tonight he got in the shower with dh and didnt cry at all?? He loves going swimming too and isnt bothered about the water going in his eyes? I thought maybe he'd outgrown his baby bath so tried him in the normal bath but still the same. I think he's going through a bad clingy phase at mo as he has seperation anxiety too, poor little bunny! Suppose he'll have to shower or bath with us until he feels brave enough to go solo again. Thanx for reply
