3yo daughter obsessed with dresses

My three year old daughter is obsessed with wearing dresses and I'm wondering if I should just go with it or show some resistance. The first thing she asks about each morning is whether she can wear her favourite dress. She has a massive strop if I say no. I've just been going with the flow and letting her choose what she wears but hope I'm doing the right thing. The other day she was wearing leggings and not a dress and she told me she couldn't dance as she didn't have a dress on. For some reason that made me feel a bit sad as she is putting so much emphasis on what she's wearing. She had some great jeans but will not wear them. Actually she won't wear anything she owns except around 3 dresses. I don't know where this is coming from as I mostly wear jeans.

Am I doing the right thing or should I stop her wearing dresses for a while to teach her that they don't matter so much?

It’s a phase, dresses are fun to dance in because of the flowing fabric, colours etc. Really nothing at all to be concerned about.

Thanks. Yes maybe I'm overthinking this one. Smile

DD1 was like this since she could express a preference (so very early!). No shorts, trousers, dungarees... only dresses. Unless it’s a dressing up costume, they were acceptable! She is growing out of it, thankfully.

Dd2 was expressing preference for dresses since she could first make her feelings known. She never wore trousers and only occasionally shorts until she was about 11yo.
She now won't wear skirts.

I find jeans very uncomfortable so would never wear them, nor put a young child in them.

My dd was like that until she left primary school. She's 15 now and hasn't owned a dress or skirt in years. Don't worry Smile
