Hi there

My newborn daughter is 5 days old and for theast two nights for around 3 hours shes just cried non stop. She wasn't hungry, nappy didn't need changing and she was winded after her last feed.

Any advice would be helpful

My baby was similar but it wasn't colic, it was milk and soya Allergy, and silent reflux, so worth looking out for other symptoms too. These are often confused with colic I think. This is a handy article with signs to look out for (my DD has them all). I can't vouch for the book/advice on the link, but the symptoms are accurate in our experience. I hope your LO feels better soon.

I should also say our DD was exactly the same from birth, and would scream and cry for hours, and would choke if laid on her back. Worth speaking to health visitor or gp if you are concerned.

Does she cry is you pick her up and cuddle her? How is she tonight?

Yea, when she's crying from reflux, picking her up does not stop the crying. If you manage to soothe her, you just think it's working then suddenly she will
Start full on screaming again. She's almost 5 months now, it used to happen worse at night, at to stroke of 10pm till about 5/6am. But now the reflux is at day time when she tries to feed, or just and time. We keep her upright all the time, even at night to sleep she sleeps on me propped up. Means I've not really slept for 5 months, but it's been worth it, as she would chock in any other position. She has medication and consultant and dietitian, hopefully she will grow out if it by 1ish. Hope yours doesn't have silent reflux, it's really tough on other of you xx

Sorry ASA I was asking the OP. That does sound incredibly tough though. If it’s any help I had to sleep holding DS for 9 months, thought I would literally go insane with tiredness. He’s now the most well adjusted, caring, funny, pleasant teen to be around. It will pass Thanks

you’ll know when it’s Collic your baby will draw her knees up while she’s crying
My mum taught me this,
Is lay your baby on her tummy accross your knees and rock your knees gently and rub the babies back..it works most times an for some reason soothes them..
But 5 days old is a little early for collic though..I think my babies were older..it’s been so long I can’t remember, are you bringing up all her wind? Sometimes babies just don’t bring it all up in the one go, feel her back if it’s vibratey feeling she’s still full of wind.
I agree with the other poster is to always consult your nurse..I have no idea about milk intolerances so it could possibly be that, speak to your nurse.
