Before DS (3yrs 4months) was born I used to see toddlers in shops saying "Mummy, I n-e-e-d this toy" etc and used to think Pretentious little b*ggers! Now, guess what, my DS is saying it (having of course sussed out that I Want doesn't work any more!!) Can anyone tell me how long this embarrasing phase lasts, and what comes next?!

I want to know too... DS (2 1/2) has already started that phase to... not so much with toys but with food ! "Mum I neeeeeeed to eat" !! And I do feed him

Sorry to upset you MandyD but my 6 and 9 year olds still try it on and even offer to use their own money on the most ridiculous of items. Stand your ground and don't give in!

Yes - same problem here, with ds, 2.5 yrs. Had one of those moments that made me laugh the other day - we had some (adult) friends around for tea and had told ds that we'd get him some tea too (which he normally eats in his playroom). However got engrossed in conversation and forgot for about 10 mins. Next thing we get is ds marching into the living room, having got an (empty) plastic plate out of the kitchen, and in front of full audience says, " Mummy..... I said I nee-e-d some tea!".
(He's also developed an irritating habit (from his father I'm sure...) of clicking his fingers at something he 'needs' which is out of his reach!)
But honestly, normally he's not as much of a spoilt bat as this makes him sound!

oops - missed the 'r' out of 'brat' in last line!!

Ds informed me the other day that he n-e-e-e-d-e-d some chocolate biscuits to cure his hay fever.

I don't know Marina, chocolate bicuits always seem to work on my hayfever....
