Anyone else's 1 year old whining?

DS turned 1 about 2 weeks ago and seems to have whined ever since. The constant whining (usually trying to tell me he wants something) and tantrums have come out of nowhere! Is this normal? Everyone always talks about the '2's' being the tantrum time but can they start early if they are struggling to communicate and getting frustrated?

If it makes any difference he can't say any words yet... they flagged it during his 12 month check Sad I wasn't that worried because he was so desperate to walk it seemed everything else was pushed to one side until he achieved that.

Oh god don't worry about him not having any words! Totally normal! I think you're right that they get frustrated about not being able to communicate though. I remember dd going through an incredibly whingey stage at this age and I think I even took her to the doctor to get checked out! In hindsight she was probably teething or tired or she was just bored! So sorry, no sage advice but it will pass, try and get him out of the house as much as possible and distract him.

No words at one is absolutely nothing to worry about, please don't think about it for at least another 6 months, it's a waste of your mental energy, i speak from experience. At one point you think it will never come and then one day suddenly they won't shut the hell up! At 1yr old my ds was also very whiny, it was a combination of many things but all totally normal things like teething, overtiredness, viruses, boredom. I agree with pp that I would try to have him out of the house as often as you can, a walk in the park or even just a walk in the pram to nowhere in particular, talk to him along the way about all the things you can both see.
