Muslim or a 'plush' comforter

I am undecided which option I should go for. I am uncertain about the muslim, as I associate that with feeding time and wiping drool & baby sick. They seem a bit dirty to me, even if they have been washed, for my DS to snugle up with. I was a blanket girl, so I am steering towards the comforter, but there are so many to choose from. I have been researching different brands and stores etc. There are those with a mix of sensory fabrics, which are great (don't get me wrong, I'm all for aiding development), and those with animal or bunny heads. I have found a few that I like by Jellycat (on World of Bears) and wondered what others think. It feels like a total mine field to me & I feel so unprepared. I did phone said shop & they were brilliant with advice and details, I just don't know why I am struggling with this. I know in the end, super soft, with a friendly character face would be adorable and probably the better suited. In truth I want it to be his special special 'comforter', that he has for years, like I did mine. Am I so wrong?

A Muslim is a follower of the religion of Islam... I think you mean Muslin!!
I’m not an expert as I only have a 5 month old myself but I think you are overthinking this! One day your baby will take a shine to something and that will be it’s comforter, be it a stinky blanket or a random teddy. My dd right now has no interest in any sort of comforter except me. I expect one day she will decide on her own what she wants. You can’t force what you think is best on them. When I’ve given her a muslin to see if it comforts her she isn’t in the slightest bit interested

Yes, I’m thinking it will be quite hard to convince a Muslim to comfort your baby 24/7...

Is this your first baby? If so, you’ll probably be given a huge range of teddies and comforters from friends and family and like 123 says, your baby will eventually prefer one over the others.

I really wouldn’t spend too much time thinking about it - if your little one gets attached to any kind of comforter it will be their choice. Only one of my four kids had any kind of blankie, two became attached to soft toys and my youngest was just attached to me (breastfeeding) for a very, very long time.

I used muslin cloths lots with my first daughter who was very sicky. Even when she outgrew the sicky stage she still liked the feel of the muslin cloth and had a raggy old one until she was four. I bought her a special fleece taggy blanket (it was the silky tags she liked to stroke on the muslins) but that was firmly rejected in favour of the muslin, which she called her ‘snuggly.’

I would say muslin just because :

• if you loose comforter baby feels stressed out
• you have to buy more than one exactly the same comforters
• muslins are cheaper and you can have plenty

My 5.5 year old is still using muslin for sleeping and I am expecting second one and will not go with anything else. I've seen parents struggling to replace toy, blanket, pillow that was used as a comforter.

They may not get attached to any comforter, you can’t force it.

Definitely won’t get attached to a Muslim.

I am sooo embarrassed about the Muslin thing! It's how I pronounce it too, so lesson really well learnt! Thank you everyone for your advice, deep down I know that a 'special' toy has to be chosen by the child, it is afterall for them. It's my mil who has been pressurising me to find the 'perfect' choice. Thought I'd share this link with you ... there's no competition really between the Muslin & the Plush

My son has three comforters the soft ones with the heads and he loves them so much. All three were from Primark £2.50 each and easily replaceable at short notice should you one day lose it in the park or something! Something to bare in mind if buying online. Ours look and feel the same so a replacement isn’t hard to get if you see what I mean x

Your “D”mil is pressurising you to get the perfect comforter? Is she generally barking?

I think you need to smile, nod and suggests say you’re sure baby would be more than happy with whatever she chooses

I have a feeling you’ll have to smile and nod a lot at her once baby is her then do exactly what you want.
