DS is nearly 6 months. He's been a terrible sleeper from the start, and it's getting worse and worse. For the past 2 nights he'll sleep in his cot for 15 mins, then wake up crying. I'll pick him up, he'll cry for a little bit more then settle on me, I put him back and on and on it goes. I just picked him up for what feels like the 30th time and got annoyed and shouted. I immediately felt terrible. But I just can't go on like this. He's draining the life out of me. At one point I fell asleep sitting up in bed with him, so it's not safe. Partner is sleeping in the spare room as he's working and tired too. I just don't know what to do, please help me!!!!

Just wanted to add our experience. My DS had undiagnosed Tongue Tie and was a terrible sleeper. He’d had it checked multiple times, was gaining weight and I didn’t have any pain from feeding but it was still there. It might be worth having him checked again by a Tongue Tie PractionerSmile

My son does have a posterior tongue tie that we decided to leave as it doesn't affect feeding....how might it influence sleep?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 02/04/2018 20:57

Looking back I think he was just hungry. Not really sure how it does affect sleep to be honest but over the years I’ve advised the same on MN and quite a few MNers have come back to say that they’ve had it devised and the Sleep has improved. DS also had huge problems with wean8ng and had speech therapy. I really wish we had had it divided when he was a baby.

@JiltedJohnsJulie he had posterior tongue tie, we had it snipped at about 4 weeks old.

Are you sure it hasn’t reattached?

BentleyBelly · 03/04/2018 02:48

@kentgirl1 I'm just up feeding and wondered how you were getting on? Hope it's going ok

kentgirl1 · 03/04/2018 05:23

@BentleyBelly he's been awake every hour so far. I could set my watch by him!!!

@JiltedJohnsJulie I don't think so as feeding was so painful before.

Oh no...at least naps went well yesterday?! My ds actually slept slightly better last night but my dd got up 4 times...between the 2 of them they are ganging up on me!!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 03/04/2018 09:10

Just thought it was worth getting the tt checked. As I said before, I didn’t have any pain when feeding.

There is a growth spurt and a developmental leap at 6 months. He may just settle back down soon Smile

kentgirl1 · 03/04/2018 21:08

He's never well slept since he was born. The naps have been much better today, I put him down for one at lunchtime and he didn't cry or anything!!!! Going to bed tonight he cried, but soon settled down. He's been asleep 2 hours now, so hopefully a better night! 🙈

🤞

JiltedJohnsJulie · 04/04/2018 12:40

How was the rest of the night @kentgirl1?

kentgirl1 · 04/04/2018 15:32

@JiltedJohnsJulie slept until 10pm again. Then awake every 1.5-2 hrs. So we've had worse lol. I'm going to go bed when he does tonight! Grin

BentleyBelly · 09/04/2018 20:03

@kentgirl1 just wondered how you are getting on? Sleep has gone completely downhill here due to illness and I am like a zombie! What I wouldn't give for a decent nights sleep right now!!

kentgirl1 · 10/04/2018 02:43

@BentleyBelly yesterday he did 6.5hrs!!! It was his christening day though, hardly napped and was exhausted. But I secretly hoped it might be a turning point. But today I've been up with him every hour. He's very unsettled and unhappy today so maybe coming down with something. There's so much illness going around!!!!! Thank you for asking about us though Smile
