Hi, I’m new to this so apologies if I rant a bit!
My baby boy is 10 weeks old today and from birth seems to have trouble with his bottom wind! He’s BF with the occasional top up of expressed milk or formula. From memory (exhaustion has made me forget a lot...) he slept pretty well from birth, usually only waking 2-3 times a night (the last being at about 5.30/6 and we always went back to sleep).
He started making strange grunting/yelping/crying noises a few weeks old which I self diagnosed as baby grunting syndrome (basically where your baby has yet to get used to making bowel movements/passing wind comfortably)! This usually corresponded with him doing a pooh in the night and I could handle it as it only seemed to be once or twice a night.
However...! The last few weeks have been awful and got progressively worse. He has been awake pretty much from 2/3am (sometimes midnight) until 6am straining, crying, grunting! Sometimes he’s asleep but usually he’s so uncomfortable he wakes himself up. Luckily he goes off back to sleep again relatively quickly but is awake again within 45mins tops. I usually end up feeding him which settles him really quickly but he has sometimes thrown up (I think he’s overeating for comfort). I don’t know whether this is the right thing to do or not but my HV said it is 😕
He’s not poohing as he doesn’t now pooh until about 9am and he doesn’t seem to be passing wind either but he is SO loud and sounds so uncomfortable. I’ve mentioned it to the HV and Dr and I keep being told it’s “normal” but no one else I know with baby’s has this problem?! I am beyond exhausted. It’s really beginning to affect my mood as I reckon i’m only getting around 2-3hrs a night.
I did think it might be silent reflux as he always hiccups, sneezes a lot, sometimes fusses at the boob etc. But dr said I would know by now if it was this?!
Is anyone else going through this? Or been through this and know when it’s likely (if at all 😖) it will end???? I kept being told that by 3/3.5 months baby’s get used to their body’s and are able to make their “movements” more comfortably! It’s so frustrating as he’s generally such a good sleeper and I really don’t think he’d wake up that much if it wasn’t for the grunting! I just don’t feel like it’s normal to be this bad at 10weeks??
Please help! Tired and fed up mummy x
