is this the terrible twos come early

help....ive a 17 month old daughter,and its like her personality has changed.shes always been active and a light sleeper but now she moans,cries for everything.we cant keep her occupied.shes into everything.when i say no she cries,well pretends to cry and is just constantly moaning all through the day.at night she refuses to go in her cot and i have no choice but to take her in the bed until she goes asleep.she contantly wakes through the night so yes,i give in as im sooooooo knackered .i dont know if this is a phase or am i doing something wrong.shes my first.im at my wits end.any ideas

I don't have any advice but am having similarish problems with DS. I hope someone has some suggestions!

Teeth? Check to see how her pre-molars/molars are looking.

i thought that about the teeth but if i give into her shes fine so if it was her teeth surely shed still be in pain when i give into her....oh isnt it a pity they cant tell us whats wrong.save a lot of worry haha

Hmmm, perhaps. Well, yes, she'd still be in pain, but perhaps they can cope with it better when they're getting their own way?

Otherwise, all I can suggest is distraction and make sure she gets plenty of exercise/fresh air during the day, so she gets nicely knackered. Separation anxiety at night perhaps?

It is the age for suddenly becoming aware they are a separate person and becoming much more needy and clingy. My nearly 2-y-o DS goes in and out of phases like this and has done since about 15 months. I try to respond by giving him all the hugs and reassurance he wants but trying not to give in with things like grabbing stuff - if he's not allowed to touch something for example, then it's no - if he cries, he cries and I try to distract him (bloody exhausting I know). With the sleeping I would try making sure you have a god bedtime routine and then leaving her to cry for just a minute or two - then try pick up/put down (repeatedly go in as necessary, pick up, cuddle and reassure, back to bed). It's hard work but may get her to sleep in her own cot quicker than you expect. (Make sure it's properly dark as well, use a blackout blind if you aren't already.) And if you can sort that out it will make it all so much easier for you because it is easier to handle if you've slept...

The terrible twos are said to really be from around 18 months to around 2 and a half.

At the moment my ds (22m) is actually a lot better than he was at 17 months so you never know she might get easier rather than harder towards two.
I do think that now ds can communicate more he is a fair bit easier and happier - but I am probably tempting fate and will have a terrible day with him tomorrow!!

Agree with others - does sound like molars?
