Defiance from 5 year old

My DD is 5 in a couple of weeks. She has recently become really hyper, completely ignoring me and talking back. Any tips? I have found myself losing my temper with her although I know this wont help at all.

What do you do if she ignores you and are you sure her hearing is ok? I once spent a week shouting at DS and getting really upset with him. After thinking about it I realised he might not actually be able to hear. Asked him, he said he had earache and the GP confirmed an ear infection. Felt very sorry for poor DS.
