Breast feeding over 1

So dd is 7momths old and at first I had this plan in my head to move her on to cows milk and stop breast feeding when she turns 1, now after reading what other people are saying I'm re thinking it all, I personally love bf my girl and the closeness we have, so would you suggest letting her choose when to stop when she emotionally ready?

Did this with both of mine, one stopped about 1, the other much later. But I was fine with it, it fitted with our lifestyle etc (I want working at the time). There's no right/wrong answer, just what works for you. We did bf alongside weaning and solid foods. You don't have too make a decision now, just keep going and reassess as you go, you can choose to be led by her or if it stops being something you want to do, you can choose to stop gradually. Good luck with it, I absolutely loved the closeness just like you, enjoy while it lasts!

I spent a lot of time worrying about how/when to wean my daughter, then one day just before she turned 18months she stopped asking for breast milk and that was that!
I think if you are still enjoying feeding her then keep going, if/when that changes then reassess.

I had it in my mind that I’d bf for 6 months then swap to formula with my first then realised I didn’t want to give up. Bf for over 2 and a half years in the end. Do what suits you and your baby

Thank you for the replies I definitely think I'm gonna leave it up to her to decide, I do sometimes think to myself I could bf her forever and then i remember that's would get weird at some point 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

Sounds like a good plan. Do you know anyone else who BFs? Do you go to any groups like La Leche League? Sometimes mixing with other Bfing Mums helps you as you can feel like the only one Bfing. In fact with my first my HV told me I was the only Mum on her books that was.

Just to echo the other posts and say that I never thought I'd still be BF. I originally wanted to until six months and found it incredibly hard going in the first few weeks. But by four months I felt like I had discovered a secret super power! And I'm still going at nearly 16 months. My DD only feeds morning and before bed and the morning feed is gradually dropping. Do what works for you and whatever makes you both happy!
