6 month old not rolling?

My baby girl just turned 6 months old last week and cannot roll yet from either tummy to back or back to tummy, she sits for only a few seconds unaided however does sit with minimal support very well, she’s extremely sociable and smiles, laughs and babbles to everyone, she sleeps very well and is a great eater, her fine motor skills are very good in the sense that she can pick up object hold them properly and play with toys on her play gym, she also picks up finger foods and puts them straight into her mouth perfectly so I don’t worry about any other aspect of her development, her babbling is a mixture of both vowels and consonants and she copies too, I should mention she rolls to her side so the initial muscle movement to do it is there, she just never gives herself that final lift off to actually roll and it’s worrying me given she is now 6 months, has anyone’s babies done this at an older age and are now fine? I guess that’s the reassurance I’m looking for!

My very sporty teen didn’t roll until he was 7 months and didn’t crawl till he was 11 months. So yes, mine Smile

Thank you, I need to hear more stories like that because I think I’m putting too much emphasis on it worrying about her physical development and really she’s perfect and the calmest and happiest baby I’ve ever known who’s very advanced in other ways so i really appreciate hearing about your experience!

Don't worry.
Dd1 didn't roll until she had a point-ie she crawled so wanted to get about. She was 9 months. She's absolutely fine physically.

Thank you for the reassurance!

My DD rolled once when she was about a month and then didn't do it again until she was about 7mo. From that it was only a few weeks until she started crawling. She just wasn't into rolling! I gave her plenty of tummy time and everything. She's 4.5yo now and totally normal, fit and healthy.

Great to hear!

My nephew only started rolling properly at 7 months - by 8 months he was crawling!! They are all so different, honestly don't worry about it :)

My son didn't roll until 8 months but despite that he was still walking unaided just after 12 months.

Mine didn’t roll until he was 10.5 months old.... we had quite a few difficult nights once he nailed that as he was insistent on practicing his new skill at bed time. At 6 months he couldn’t sit unaided either (even for a short time), he didn’t crack than until 7.5 months. He started crawling at 8 months and has only just started walking at 15 months. I’ve not been concerned by any of it as I can see progression and development.

My little girl didn't roll over until about 9m and was generally slow with mobility, she didn't start walking until 16m and I was getting worried as all the other babies I knew had reached those milestones much sooner. She's now 3 and runs around like a loony! My DD2 is now 6m and not fully rolling either but I'm definitely not worrying about it. They are all so different so don't fret I'm sure it will happen in good time Smile

Totally normal, mine were late developers too and ended up just fine.

MrsJ11 · 17/04/2018 20:19

Thank you for the reassurance! she is now sitting totally unsupported so I suppose she’s not behind in other physical aspects at least

I just wanted to let everyone know she rolled at 7 months! A couple of weeks after I originally posted! It’s good to follow up for anyone else worrying about this with their own kids and I thank everyone for their reassurances
