Worried about 9 month olds development

Hi,

So my soon to be 10 month old DD (10 months old next week) seems to be behind other babies her age.

She doesn’t crawl, pull herself up to standing, cruise. If I put her next to furniture she can hold on for a period of time and she’s confident at sitting.

She babbles pretty much ALL day but nothing that sounds like words apart from mama and dada... she doesn’t associate these with us though.

She doesn’t pass toys, point, wave bye bye, but she does clap.

I feel like she’s behind because of me and something I’m not doing.

I sing to her, take her to two baby groups a week, we watch TV (probably too much and I have major mum guilt because of this) go for walks, read touch and feel books, play with toys, go visiting.

She’s always been quite a grumpy baby to and is constantly moaning!!

Is there something I’m doing/not doing to slow down her development?

Thanks

My eldest didn’t crawl at this age either and he seems a perfectly capable teen. If you are worried I’d ask your HV for an assessment.

HV have been pretty useless so far.

That’s a shame. If you are worried about speech, I’d try baby signing. I got a book from the library and did it with mine and it really did help ease their frustrations. Do you think she can hear ok?

It’s good that she can stand. Does she get any tummy time? My eldest absolutely hated it which I think contributed to the late crawling. I used to put s couple of toys on the sofa for him to reach when he was stranding up, just to encourage him to stand a little longer.

If she’s grumpy and moaning, has she always been like this?

I do a baby signing group, I love it! she did sign for milk for a few days then stopped again but hopefully if I preserve it will all pay off in a few months time.

she doesn’t like tummy time much I think she just gets frustrated. she can’t pull herself up yet so hopefully she’ll do that soon.

She’s definitely known as a bit of a grumpy baby... but seems to be a little better since 9 months. I’m hoping she gets better once on the move but I’m putting it down to grumpy personality.

Yeah I think the key to signing is to keep signing at them, even if they aren’t doing it back. Please don’t start believing she has a grumpy personality though. My DS screamed almost constantly for months and he’s the most easy going and pleasant teen yiu coukd wish to meet. Things will improve, I promise Smile

I hope so!! I’m starting to see it getting a little better now.

When did yours start signing back to you ?

DS was a BT forward and was signing up, milk and biscuit quite early but I had been signing st him from about 3 months Smile

DD was a bit slower Smile
