21 month old not talking

Hello, first time mum here Confused

So, my 21 month old son isn't talking - is that normal?

He babbles so much and you get the impression he is trying to talk but it's literally gibberish, almost like a sims character (loved sims btw!)

He has said the occasional word, but not consistently and I'm starting to worry! I ask him who daddy is, nothing! Ask him who mummy is, nothing! Ask him where his nose is, nothing!

But apparently he has done it at nursery when looking at family photos! I've also seen him answering the phone mimicking me. He says 'oh no' and 'no' but that's about it?

Would phonics classes help?

Have you taken him to a HV? I guess he’s nearly at two-test check age, and I think they’d be looking for more clear words. Does your area have Speech and Language drop-in sessions? I think it’s worth contacting your local children’s centre for some advice. It’s curious that nursery are unconcerned - can you ask them where they place his language development against EYFS.
