When to teach toddler to pee standing up

When is the right time to teach your son to pee standing up?

Also, why aren’t boys supposed to wipe after peeing? Just don’t understand this, as I didn’t know better and taught my DS to wipe. When he doesn’t wipe he gets spots of pee on his underwear. It’s not much, but I think it’s more hygienic to wipe. On asking my husband he says he wipes for that reason but he knows that most men don’t bother.

I have 2 sons, they are both at secondary school and both sit to wee unless at a urinal. They also both wipe unless at a urinal.

Teaching a child with a teeny winky to wee over the edge of the bowl of a toilet is difficult. Getting them to tuck it down whilst sitting is much easier and far less messy.

Dh also sits.

My DH sits and wipes too, it’s very rare he will stand a time home. We taught DS to stand the summer before he started school. He was so small I doubt he would have reached before then Smile

Ah ok. So he has a while yet before we need to worry about standing.

DS (age 3 now) never sat for a wee. (He wouldn't use a potty at all, just went from pull ups to loo.) The nursery has a miniature urinal but I think he is the only one who uses it!

Ds is 3.5 and stands for a wee, he has done for just a few weeks though. He saw that’s how dh does it and just started copying. So far we have had no problems with mess or anything, he’s taken to it really well.

I would never have encouraged it personally just yet, but he finds it easier, especially when we are out and there is no little seat to sit on. He always hates sitting on a big toilet seat.
