Please help!!! Tomorrow i am going to start potty training my daughter. I have tried a few times before now but due to a heart condition she has suffered with developmental delays. My health visitor previously advised to wait untill she understands more and can talk a little. She is due to start nursery in April and i finally feel she is ready. Although she still isnt the biggest talker she does seem to understand most of what i say. So the reason for writing? Tips please! Haha i have no idea how to start. Please share with me your experiences i will be eternally greatful.

Many thanks
Sian

Even if she is ready still expect the first day to be multiple accidents, hold your nerve and don't give up. Lots of patience. Day 2 will have a few successes. Day 3 should be much better. Don't make plans for day 1. Stay home and near the toilet/potty. Remind her lots and huge praise for any successes. They're usually dry before clean. Don't confuse her with nappies for going out or car journeys etc. Nappies only for naps/bedtime now.

Thats great. Thankyou so much. As it is we couldnt start this morning as our little one cut his first tooth and made sure everyone knew it bless him! So hopefully tomorrow is the day.

Everything hoho said plus in my dds case, she seemed to panic a bit a bit when she new she needed her potty and forget how to ask for it, so she would suddenly look worried and blurt out something like “oh no! don’t want wet legs!”. It went better when I kept a very close eye on her and offered the potty and the first sign of anything, rather than expecting her to ask in time.

Thankyou so much i apreciate any advice. My friends children are too young yet to be potty trained and its been a long time since my mother did it so i was panicking a little thinking what do i do! Haha ill make sure that i ask her regularly and that she knows where her potty is

I gave my son a sweet everytime he went for the first few days - it really motivated him.

Some children get it quickly -within a day or two. Others take much longer.

Also, some children achieve day time dryness ahead of nighttime dryness - so be open to using pull ups at night for now and getting her to use the toilet during the day.

Well so far she is willing to sit on the potty which she never did before but shes not actually weed in there yet lol we keep missing! But her willing to actually sit on it is progress :)
