I'm wondering what you all use/used as a drinking vessel for your one year for water and for milk?

Thanks

DS1 had a normal cup.
DS2 had an Anywayup cup with a spout.

Couldn't get DS to take drinks out of a cup till he was about 15 months. Not for want of trying. They all get there when they are ready. So don't panic or feel guilty if your little one is still on a bottle.

When cups clicked, it was a bogstandard cheapo white ikea beaker, and the Heinz baby beaker. then we graduated onto tommee tippee flip top spout ones.

ds doesn't like sippy cups either so we have a doidy which he has used since 4 months.

nappyaddict · 29/04/2007 20:28

oh he also likes the ones with sports caps.

I don't know what bottles you use, but I used Avent ones, so I just swapped teats for spouts and am still using the same old bottles! Dd occasionally will drink from a cup but she usually ends up spilling it. We're getting there!

doidy cup

LaDiDaDi · 29/04/2007 23:33

Thanks for all of your messages.

Dd will be one next week and since we started weaning at six months I've been giving her water in a sippy cup but she still gets her milk from a bottle. I think I will change her bottles to a sippy cup too, though perhaps ones with faster flowing spouts.

Weaned 13m old recently from bottle. He will drink milk from only the following: Avent sippy cup, diody cup, any real (i.e. ones me and DP use) glass or bottle but will try to drink to fast and pour it on himself.

Straws best for my 1 year old. Tommee Tippee do a large beaker which has a lid with a hole for a straw. It's fab, and the only thing both mine would take milk from in any real quantity.

Sunyshineymummy · 29/04/2007 23:44

ABO how did you get 1 year old to drink from a straw. I have tried and he won't suck!

AllBuggiedOut · 29/04/2007 23:48

DS2 just "got it", but DS1 I'd tried a few times and he wasn't getting it. So one day when his sippy cup was empty and he was sucking at it to get water out, I gave him a straw and he just sucked.

Sunyshineymummy · 29/04/2007 23:54

I must try this. Really want him to get the straw thing. Just taught him to blow a whistle so surely I can organise this.
