Hi, I need some advice. My 7 week old baby is currently on aptamil 1 but is suffering constipation 1/2 times each week. My doctor has given lactulose to give him as and when but I was wondering if it might he his milk thats causing it, and if I should try swapping him to see? If so, does anyone have any recommendations for what brand to try? As I have been told aptamil is the best. Thanks.

What do you mean by constipation? Hard dry poo or just a delay in doing one? My lo's went 2-3 days between poos at that age but as it was still soft when it came they weren't constipated

They’re not solid when they come but they are like a cement consistency rather than his usual texture and its causing him pain. I know medically there isnt an issue with how long hes going as I’ve spoken to my doctor but I also know his routine and that hes in agony when trying to go and is struggling, so I want to try and ease it for him and thought maybe a change in milk may help. I’ve tried massaging, cycling legs, cooled boiled water etc

My 3 month old is the same, has been since birth. She's on comfort milk but still suffers, hasn't had lactulose etc tho as my GP doesn't think there's a problem. It's hard to see them struggle so big hugs. Have you tried tummy massage after warm baths etc

Thank you. Its frustrating isn't it when people say theres no problem because they aren't going too long, you know your own baby and whats normal for them and obviously when they're in pain. Luckily my Dr was understanding of that but it must be even worse if yours isn't, can you not see a different one? The lactulose does help I just worry about his little tummy so I don't want to give it too often and him become dependant. Yes I've tried warm baths and massage, we go to a baby massage class so she gave me some specific ones to try but they don't seem to help him unfortunately. I've bought a tub of cow and gate milk so I'm going to see if he's any better on that, fingers crossed x

We are in the middle of moving so I'm hoping our new GP will be more helpful. Fingers crossed.
