2 years old's speech

The nursery have suggested putting my son on a play plan which consists of flash cards and activities due to his speech. It's just got me a bit worried.
When I mentioned I'd call the health visitor about it they said they would if they were in my place. This got me even more worried.

He says words and repeats what we say in the house, but he does still babble a lot.

I'm just wondering if anyone else is in my place, or been through this before?

He turned 2 last month.

Please try not to worry. My ds didn't say anything until he was 26 months. Now he's 9 and never shuts up.
Your ds is saying words. Does he tell you if he wants a drink. Or does he point. See what your health visitor says, but I'm sure he's fine.

I'm in the US, so different system. But I also have a son who was a late talker. His limited speech (about a dozen words) at 2 years old mildly concerned our pediatrician and she said we should seriously consider attending speech therapy sessions if he hadn't got to where he should be by 2.5 years.

Never made it to the sessions though as it was just like someone flicked a switch in him one day at 28 months, and he started talking incessantly and in no time at all (like the space of a week) he was talking in sentences. His vocabulary is vast and growing, and he is pretty clear and largely understandable - to strangers as well as close family. The change is just astonishing.
