HER BEST FRIEND IS MOVING - HELP!!

My DD's best friend will be moving in a couple of weeks, and most probably changing schools as well. They are 7 yrs old and have been very close friends since pre-school. My DD is an only child and her friend is an only girl but has three brothers. They spend so much time together. What's the best way of dealing with this separation. I'm quelling the panic just thinking about it. I know life will go on and my DD is the outgoing one of the duo, but I'm not sure how to act myself about it.

Don't make your dd feel silly for being upset if she is, but equally be quite no-nonsense with her I think. Offer definite ways they can keep in touch, and remind her of others she likes and can still be friends with; but don't be too worried about it yourself or it'll make it seem even worse to your dd, if you know what I mean.

At 7 she WILL move on, so there's no point giving it too much importance. Not saying it won't be hard for her tho!

Agree with sunnysideup. We moved over a hundred miles away from my best friend in July when I was 7. I spent a miserable summer in the new house with no friends but once I started school made loads of new friends.

She will survive it!

Thks sunnysideup and othersideofthechannel for your advice. Have decided to be positive about it. We have started chatting about what extra things we could do and all the others nice friends that she has. She starts Brownies in a few weeks time too, so thats a bonus.
