First tooth molar?!

Hi,

Not sure if I'm being crazy but I swear my DS has been teething horribly for a while now and just now I applied some teething gel to only feel a hard pointy lump where his molars should be? I had a look and saw a white tip. Is this a molar? Why isn't his front teeth coming first if so?

Thank you xx

How old is he?

The typical age and order a child gets teeth is just that - typical. Some children just aren't typical though.

My son was toothless until he was a year old, then got his top front teeth first. He had four molars before his lower lateral incisors ever peeked through. Most children have those by the time they are a year old, but my son was two before his appeared. So he's been completely off-track on typical order and age of teeth arrival.

Apparently not being typical doesn't matter in the least though, as the child still has a perfectly good chance of ending up with a normal mouthful of teeth in the end. So if it is a molar coming, it almost certainly isn't anything to worry about.

DS’s molars started before anything else, and then subsided and we wound up with the usual pattern of eruption. But it does happen! Here’s hoping it’ll be quick whatever that tooth decides!
