Not sure what to do

Just picked up ds1 (6) from school.

He was brought over by the teaching assistant and he burst out crying. Whilst playing football this afternoon he punched one his friends twice 'because he missed a really easy goal'. WTF?

He wasn't provacated in any way at all, he's admitted this, his only defence was that it was a really easy goal. I am so angry with him I cannot even begin to describe it but I'm also totally gobsmacked by this because he has never lashed out before. To make it worse he did it in front of the boys mother. I don't know the family at all.

When he arrived back at home, he told me what happened and is up in his bedroom as I write.

What happens next?

Oh thats a tough one. I think that boys can get ridiculously competitive at around this age. Perhaps it will be a one off incident, does he feel ashamed?
Another thought, is he being teased about his sporting prowess and under pressure that way? Is he an insecure boy, or usually secure?
What did the other boys parents say? What are the school going to do? presumably there will be some form of punishment?

Don't have great advice, as ds is only 17mo but will help bump this for you.

I am guessing your ds was very frustrated (for some reason) and the goal thing tipped him over the edge. Is there any other reason he could have been feeling bad about life? Anything else happen in school that day? Try to let him know you are angry as it is unacceptable behaviour but that you also love him and would like to understand more about it all/ how he is feeling about it now etc....

Nope, no punishment from school, and I don't know what the mother did or said. He's crying 'I'm sorry, can I come down now'.

I think I need to talk some more with him, but I feel that he's not taking it very seriously.
