What if your child dislikes the present and misbehaves?

Could you pls advise?

Today we let our 10-year-old boy open a present. Although we chose the present with care, he disliked it and showed his upset before everyone.

My husband was so angry that he went out. Although later I managed to force my boy to apologize, my husband is still very angry. He said it was our failure as parents and that he was not sure our boy could improve. We were so sad and disappointed at this self-defeating thought.

Have you ever been in a similar situation?

Thank you

I would expect my ds to tell me if he really didnt like a present he got from us, he wouldn’t get upset and we would probably have a laugh about it as we don’t put pressure on him to pretend to us, some presents he has initially not been keen on as they weren’t what he was expecting but have grown on him. Any presents from relatives he knows to accept graciously and we can discuss privately later.

He’s only 10 still learning, probably a mixture of excited and exhausted after a long school term and you can use this as an example to reinforce present etiquette.

You dh on the other hand does sound like a lost cause.
