Extreme bad mood after naps

Just recently dd 2 years and 1 month has been waking up from naps in a very bad mood. She cries for at least 10 minutes and nothing we say is ever right. We just have to wait for her to get herself out of it. Does anyone else's dcs do this or know why she does this?

ds1 does this and i think it is because he is still tired tbh.
he wakes up and starts crying and it soon escalates into a full blown tantrum. he does not want to be touched, comforted, spoken to, a bottle of milk, to watch tv, something to eat..... nothing.
a couple of times i have managed to distract him from it like 'oh wow, look at that HUGE aeroplane' in a really over enthusiastic tone but there is usually nothing to distract him with.
i let him get on with it as trying to comfort etc just seems to aggrivate him more and makes it all last longer.
it happens only when he is late having a kip or when he is late to bed. he will then wake up about an hour after going up and have a crying fit, then go to sleep.

DD (2 1/2) has always done this - lately I have left her bedroom curtains open when she naps and allowed her to wake up in her own time and shout for me when she wants me. This has really helped as she seems to feel as she can see things that she is not so bored and does not have to leap out of bed the minute she wakes up.

My ds1 does this. It takes a while but it does pass.

My dd is like this and the only solution is to leave her in the cot. Once I go in, she expects to get up - whatever mood she's in. Once I know she's awake - she either chats or has a little whinge, I leave her for around 1/2 hour. Otherwise she has a full on strop for over an hour!!

If I'm honest, I fairly often wake in that kind of mood if I fall asleep in the day. I don't cry admittedly but I am truly best left alone for a few minutes to come round properly!

Mt DS (20 months) has recently started doing this. Initially I though it was when he was still tired, but sometimes he has a good 3 hour nap and is still miserable on waking.

I generally sit down with a pile of his favourite books and start reading to him. It doesn't always work, but it usually does.

My 16 month often wakes in a bad mood if he has 2 naps. I try and get him outside and thinking about other things. We rent a house on a farm so go out and talk to the calves. I find that works a treat...trouble is geting his shoes on to get out there in the first place though!

DS used to wake up in a foul mood and still wakes up a little bit grumpy on the rare occasions he naps. The thing that would cheer him up was looking at family photos on the computer.

I posted this a while back, and lovely mners said that it was probably due to low sugar level.

So before I put ds down for his nap, I'd give him a healthy {slow energy releasing} snack (i.e., banana, cereal bar, raisons etc - NOT biscuits) and honestly it worked!!!

Ds is now much, much happier when he wakes up.

My ds is like this too after he sleeps in the day (not very often anymore), he will cry for 5-10 mins or so and hates to be cuddled etc, but as soon as I mention food to him, he starts to calm down and is fine as soon as he has had something to eat.

Thanks all. I might get my mum (who looks after dd while I'm at work) to give her some raisins before we pick her up. She always falls asleep in the car on the way home. That's the only nap she has now since we took away her dummy (I don't know if this is a coincidence).
