Baby has flat head... will it get better?

Hi guys, so subject says it all my 15 week old has a flat head. I started noticing it around 10 weeks. I took him to the gp because I was Very concerned. I was told not to worry but obviously I’m worrying. I paid to go and see a cranial osteopath who diagnosed torticollis and plagiocephaly. The torticollis seems to have been fixed and he can now turn his head both sides but it is still quite flat on one side of his head. The cranial osteopath recommended getting my baby a helmet. When I said this to the physio who I saw through the nhs she said no way should I get a helmet and it would correct by itself. His head is very flat on one side. Does anybody have any advice or know anything? I don’t really want to get him a helmet. Will it get better?

Hi,
This happened to both of mine which was really odd until I found out it was due to how I was carrying them ( both big babies, breach and overdue) . I did everything you’re doing, I bought a sling, panicked whenever they lay on their backs etc etc. I can say 100% that both (6 and 4 yrs) look great. ... even with wet hair! No helmet required and it definitely improves. They will never have perfect heads but then again who does!
I wish I had stopped worrying so please take my advice and try not to worry... it does get better and anyway, as soon as hair grows you can’t see!
Hope this has helped.

Ps stop worrying!!

My boy had a flat head at the back of his head, probably due to lying down most of the time. Once he started rolling onto his front then sitting up then standing it began to reduce. Now at 11 months his head is only slightly flat at the back and I'm sure that'll get better with time too. Smile I wouldn't worry. I think a lot of babies have flat heads when they are very young and almost always it corrects itself with time.

My eldest boy had a very flat and wonky head. He is a first born twin and spent a lot of time laying flat on his back as a babe as my other baby had reflux and got picked up more.

I was so worried about his poor wonky head and felt fobbed off by docs who all told me it would be fine. It was not fine by the time he was three and I really regretted not getting him one of those helmets to correct it. My friend got both her boys treated privately and it cost a lot of money, which I didn’t have.

Anyway, my boy is now 12 years old and has a beautifully shaped head, so I’m kind of glad I saved the money.

Hey, thanks for response. Oh really after 3 years his head changed? So many conflictIng stories on line. Some say it completely went away some say they needed a helmet. It’s just a horrible feeling do I wait it out or not x

I forgot to say that I know a few other babes with flat heads and all of them have improved significantly and without the need of a helmet.
I just chatted to my husband about it and he agrees that the worrying was the biggest mistake we did and such a wasted time when it should have been a happy time.
I hope you make a decision quickly and try to stop worrying.,. All good in hindsight hey!

My boy also had a flat head on one side....and I mean really flat! Once he stared to lie on his tummy and sit up a bit better etc, it improvedoesn't so much.
He's still only 8 months old but it's almost round! Don't worry!
